When the power grid was built, the system components were not of the same nature as today. The design principles used to plan the power grid simply do not correspond to today's needs. That is one of the reasons why we have problems in the grid. We also have a political perspective, a state aspect and the dynamics of a population that moves which makes the issue complex.
In the SCA+ project, E.ON is working on this, among other things. In an apartment building in Malmö, they measure how electricity is used to gain better knowledge of when energy is needed. In this way, the calculated power grid can be reinforced in the right place. The second part is to lower the peak power through solar panels and batteries. These two measures can increase network capacity and enable more customers to be connected to the electricity grid.
In SCA+, Novion has helped E.ON to build and implement metering with near real-time reporting in the selected property. The assignment also included creating an online visualization.
